Howletts Zoo

About Howletts Wild Animal Park

Howletts Wild Animal Park is located near Canterbury and is owned by the Aspinall Foundation. Howletts Zoo prides itself on its work for endangered species and animal conservation. The enclosures for the animals are large and represent as close as possible their natural habitat. Most of the animals you would hope to see in a zoo reside at Howletts including big cats, small cats, rhino, elephants, bison, primates and, of course, gorillas. As well as the animals, the zoo also boasts an outdoor adventure playground, a treetop challenge (for ages five and upwards) and facilities are good with picnic spots, a restaurant, cafe and food kiosks.

Our visit to Howletts Wild Animal Park

Howlett’s is a wonderful zoo with an impressive range of animals (the only absentees noted by my children were lions and giraffes).  The enclosures are spacious and the animals appear extremely well cared for and comfortable in their environment. The playgrounds are a hit with the kids and facilities are of a good standard. The only thing to bear in mind when visiting this particular zoo is that the sheer size of the park can mean that the amount of walking is very tiring for little legs and it may be worth bringing a pushchair, even if your child is usually an enthusiastic walker. If you plan to visit the zoo more than once in the year make sure you purchase the annual passport – at just £4.00 more than the Gate Price for adults of £19.95, you only have to come back once to get your money’s worth.
